Vocal Music
Irmo High School provides a challenging Vocal program for students interested in pursuing further vocal training beyond high school as well as for students interested in improving vocal technique for participation in community-based performances. Along with choral and ensemble work, our students may compete in local, state, and national competitions and performances for recognition, awards, and scholarships. Many of our students continue vocal studies at post-secondary institutions and organizations.
Vocal training is offered at the beginning, intermediate, and Honors levels. In addition to technical training in the physiology of vocal sound production (respiration, phonation, resonance, articulation), students at the beginning level receive instruction in performance etiquette as well as English, Italian, and Latin diction. Students at the Honors level are screened through auditions and interviews and evaluated on vocal capacity, musicianship, musical training, and academic achievement. During the course of their Vocal studies, students may participate in master classes, observe workshops, and/or attend musical performances in the community.
