Instrumental Music
The instrumental music program at Irmo High School spans a wide range of instrumentation and ensembles. Students in this program are offered the opportunity for intensive study on their major instrument as well as a variety solo and ensemble performance prospects. These students may choose to study a secondary instrument from the band or orchestral ensembles or guitar or piano. They may also add music theory to enhance their music composition and analysis studies. These secondary courses are ideal for the student continuing his or her studies at the collegiate level in either music performance or music education.
Irmo’s instrumental music program gives students the chance to show their talents through chamber, wind ensemble and orchestral performances as well as through collaborations with the theater, choral and dance departments. Instrumental musicians are offered several opportunities to perform full symphonic literature through regular collaborations between the band and orchestra departments including community performances with the District 5 Honors Orchestra and graduation ceremonies the Irmo High Symphonic Orchestra.
