Dance

The Dance department at Irmo International High School for the Arts promotes a professional, rigorous, and innovative curriculum.  Students gain experience in a variety of dance forms including Ballet, Modern, Jazz, Hip Hop, African, Latin, and Middle Eastern studies. With a globally infused curriculum, the department introduces an exceptional course entitled Modern World Dance.  Modern World Dance provides movement studies ranging from Argentine Tango to Belly Dance forms.  Irmo’s Dance department is the only high school program in District 5 to offer this course in addition to the International Baccalaureate course of study in dance that promotes advanced studies in choreography and written dance analysis. 

Opportunities for professional and performance development in the dance department include: membership with the award winning competitive dance team, District Dance Day, Irmo Dance Day, professional dance company workshops, community and volunteer services through the National Honor Society for Dance Arts, and field studies at the Koger Center for the Arts.  Upon completion of the dance program, students will have proficiency needed for acceptance in professional and collegiate levels of dance.
