Welcome to the Irmo High School
International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme

The International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme is a two-year sequence and has the following requirements:

  • Six courses, each selected from different areas of study - three must be High Level, which are taken over both years, and three must be Standard Level. Scroll down on this page for the complete course list.
  • 18 months of participation in creativity, action and service (CAS).
  • An extended essay of 4000 words, which demands independent work and gives the candidate a first experience of academic research.
  • A course in Theory of Knowledge - explains the relationship between different disciplines and ensures that students engage in critical reflection on the knowledge and experience acquired both within and beyond the classroom.

Students take courses in six subject areas (English, History, Foreign Language, Math, Art, Science).

The Diploma Program also requires Creativity, Activity & Service (CAS), Theory of Knowledge (TOK) coursework, and an Extended Essay.

The IB Diploma Programme is a broad international education that incorporates the values of the IB into a world-class rigorous program that educates the whole student. The Diploma program courses prepare students for further/higher education, apprenticeships or employment.
